About

Some Background

Hi!  My name is Marianne Bakia. I'm a program evaluator and project manager by trade for 25 years; and although I have a wide range of experiences in education -- both in the USA and abroad, and from elementary to postsecondary settings -- I always seem to find myself working with and around educational technologies, both online and blended. I'm a proud co-author of the book Learning Online: What research tells us about whether, when and how. It won't be long before I link my CV and past work, and I've done some other cool stuff that I'll probably blog about eventually. Anyway ...

I started Innovation Partners in Education to address the gap between research findings about how people learn and instructional effectiveness, and what I find to be the vast majority of educational experiences available to students. There is so much potential to do so much better. And it's been there for a long time.  It's a shame to see it go to waste. I'm not blaming anyone. Certainly not the teachers who have dedicated their careers to human development. Nor the researchers seeking knowledge and insight. It's a systems problem. And it's going to take new ways of working together to create powerful systems that enable every student to reach their full potential. It's going to take all of us to solve important problems of instructional practice.

I can help you with:

  • operational management of field-based (school based) research studies, especially tech-based interventions

  • identification, recruitment and communication with educators about research collaboration and dissemination of results

  • collection, analysis and reporting of site-based data

  • design, creation, and evaluation of collaborative activities to enable and enhance research-practice partnerships and user-centered design (think workshops and training webinars)
